Gone Fishing

Sitting and fishing,
nobody bothers you much;
they figure you’re doing
something useful
not just watching
your line in the eddies
for twitches of hope
or wondering about lures

The water rolls by and
you will never see the
same waves again,
the stream bed and rocks
seem to stay where planted,
a kind of eternity,
but the current moves on
never the same from
second to second

Always fresh and new,
river renews this life
of ever present change
ready always for us,
we catch
or are caught
as the flow goes by
