A Peculiar Treasure is an embellishment of four chapters of 52 pages, all encompassing on the price and reward of Obedience to God almighty.

The introductory chapter deals with God’s requirements from us. Emmanuel Afolabi speaks on things required of us by God.

According to the Author, one must act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with God in other to hear his voice, he gives different examples of people in the bible that possesses God’s requirements and how they adhered to him.

In driving this message, Emmanuel referred to Heb.5:8 “Though he was a Son, he learnt his obedience by the things which he suffered.” he goes further to state that obedience comes at a cost. Suffering test of our obedience, to see if we will remain forgiving and loving when we are treated with contempt, despitefully used, tortured mentally or physically for righteous sake. Christ’s devotion to obedience was so great and complete that he passes every test with glowing colours. 

The follow up chapter, gives detailed ways in which we can walk with God, they include: humbling ourselves before God, patience, and purity at heart. God only walk with people who can hear from him. Our hearing ears are necessary for learning Obedience, these are not physical ears that pick-up physical hearing, but ears that can hear the spirit. He adds that God knows those that can go the extra mile for him, his ambassadors.

The concluding part of the book enlightens readers on the reward of obedience. God always give us something better than things he takes from us. His rewards are for the Overcomers. He also referred to Revelation chapter 2 and 3 as it reveals God’s gifts for obedience. 

The message of the book is being written in a simple language and is presented in a reader-friendly format. I was fascinated to read about the great rewards God has in store for us if we could just obey. The book is a timely and resourceful tool for every serious Christian and must read.
